We are often asked about the possibility of breast implant financing. We are delighted to be able to offer finance options for our prospective patients. The finance is provided by an independent finance company called Chrysalis.

How much is it?

The current price for breast augmentation is from £7500. This may be more if there is breast asymmetry, uplift required or overnight stay.

What is the monthly cost?

There is a minimum deposit of £500 to secure your procedure date. The remainder of the price can be spread over 24 or 36 months. These options are interest bearing from 16% over 24 or 36 months.

To illustrate, a breast augmentation at £7500 would cost an initial minimum £500 deposit then the estimated monthly cost would be about £330 a month over 24 months or £235 a month over 36 months.

Am I eligible to apply?

  • Applicants should be over 18 years old (if you are under someone else such as a parent may apply on your behalf)
  • You should be a UK resident for over 3 years
  • You should have an annual income over £10000
  • Sometimes they may request to add a second applicant to support your application

Have you recently undergone a breast augmentation and concerned that your implants are sitting too high? This is normal during the initial few weeks following surgery. It is more likely if the implants have been placed under the muscle. This is due to that fact that the muscle tends to hold the implant up. I would normally advise patients to wear a breast band for the first 2 weeks following their surgery. This breast band is useful for reducing the upward movement of the implant. In some patients, we may decide to use this for a longer period of time.

Over the weeks following your surgery, you will notice that the fullness in the upper part of the breast will begin to reduce. This happens as the tissues begin to stretch and relax around the implant. Gradually the implant will drop to the resting position and often hide the scar better. The position of implants can be seen nicely in this series of photographs of a patient that underwent breast enlargement. She had 450cc moderate plus profile implants placed under the muscle. The photographs in the middle are taken about 6 weeks following her surgery. They show that there is still a fair amount of fullness in the upper part of the breast. The final photograph is taken at about 1 year following her operation. This shows how the breast implants have dropped to a more natural position. The more natural appearance of the breast shape is achieved with the combination of the moderate profile implants and under the muscle (submuscular) placement of the implants.

This case nicely shows how the implants have settled with time and given a natural breast enhancement. To find out more about breast augmentation in Cheshire please contact us on 0800 0584558 or via email at contact@rezanassab.com

Instagram has become a very popular social media platform in the plastic surgery world. There are many patients now using it to find their plastic surgeon or before and afters of procedures. It is a valuable to tool for education of patients if used appropriately.

A recent study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal reviewed Plastic Surgery related Instagram posts. The American study looked at data from almost 2 million posts using 21 cosmetic surgery related hashtags. The results of the study showed that only 17.8% of the top posts were from board certified plastic surgeons.

What does it mean to be board certified? In American, plastic surgeons undergo specialist training and examinations to become board certified. They are also elected to memberships of societies such as ISAPS, ASPS and ASAPS. In the UK, there is a similar system where plastic surgeons should have completed the FRCS (Plast) examination and certified by having their name on the GMC specialist register for plastic surgery. Membership to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) and British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) are the UK equivalent societies.

I have found Instagram to be a very useful tool for patient education. The variety of differing before and after results of patients highlights the fact that each individual is different. The use of the photos also helps patients understand the differences in breast implant shapes and sizes.

The study highlights that when using social media platforms, such as Instagram, patients should do their research about who the surgeon is and their credentials. If you are considering cosmetic surgery in the UK then you should check the qualifications of your surgeon. The surgeon should be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery. They should also be a member of the highly regarded plastic surgery associations such as BAAPS, BAPRAS, ASPS or ISAPS.

MiniAug

The MiniAug or miniaugmentation is a breast augmentation procedure to provide a natural look enhancement. This technique involves selection of the right size and shaped implant to give you that push up bra appearance all the time.

There has long been a trend for large volume breast augmentation using implants that are frequently round and highly projected. The emerging trend now is for the more natural look enhancement.

“I have seen a rise in demand for smaller volume implants and the average size now in my practice is about 300cc. Patients want that little bit extra without making it obvious that they have had a breast enlargement procedure” says Mr Nassab.

What is a MiniAug or MiniAugmentation?

The MiniAug or miniaugmentation is a process of implant selection and procedure to give you that discreet enhanced look. The initial stage is the consultation with Mr Nassab who will assess your natural breast shape and size. The measurements taken help decide which implants would suit your breast. These implants are then tried in clinic to give you an idea of the expected appearance. Choosing to go above or under the muscle is discussed and this is very much tailored to your specific case. It is a myth that you must go under the muscle to achieve a natural look. We will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each in your case. We discuss the implant shape which may be round or tear drop. Once again, it is a common misconception that round implants look more false and fake.

The procedure is performed using a minimal incision measuring from 3-4cm. The implants are inserted using the Keller funnel technique which allows use of a smaller incision. The scar is discreetly placed in the breast crease and usually settles with time. We recommend specific aftercare treatments to help improve the scar quality.

How do I find out more about a MiniAug (MiniAugmentation)?

We can arrange a consultation with Mr Nassab to discuss the procedure in more detail and plan your bespoke plan to achieve your natural look enhancement. This will keep people guessing as to whether you have or haven’t had a breast enlargement procedure.

Patients seeking breast augmentation often wonder what cup size they may become after having implants. This is a probably the most common question asked during the consultation. Unfortunately it is often not possible to give an answer to this for many reasons. The major problem is that there is no uniform measurement used by bra makers. This means that you may be C cup in one brand and a D cup in another.

A recent study published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal looked at how you can predict cup size changes following breast implants. The study used special 3D imaging techniques to identify what volume is needed to increase by a cup size. They concluded that between 130-150 cc is equivalent to about a cup size. This is a very useful estimate that I have been using in my practice.

So what does this mean?

If you are a patient looking to have a breast enlargement and you currently wear an A cup bra. You would like to have an implant to give you a C cup. This is about 2 cup sizes from your original bra size. The surgeon can estimate that you need an implant of about 300cc to give the desired increase in cup size. Using implant sizers during the consultation will also help confirm the volume that you would need for the appearance that you want.

The population is ageing and more people are seeking cosmetic surgery at an older age. There are often concerns from older patients whether they would be at higher risk after surgery. The abdominoplasty, more commonly known as a tummy tuck, is a procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the tummy to improve the shape. This is a commonly performed procedure in patient who have lost weight or had children. The ideal patient would be one that has reached an ideal body weight and not overweight. This is not an operation for weight loss and should not be considered as method of weight reduction. Patients will often have loose skin that hangs over the waist line that may limit activities or restrict clothing options. Some people may also experience rashes and infection in the skin creases.

A recent study from Couto et al. reviewed 2 groups of patients undergoing tummy tuck operations. The first group were those aged 59 and under with the second group being those aged 60 and over. Their series comprised of 129 patients in total. They found that the older group had more medical problems and weighed more. Despite this, the study found that there was no significant difference between the younger and older patients in terms of major and minor complications following a tummy tuck procedure. Although the number of patients in this study is low it highlights that with appropriate patient selection the risks of surgery may be minimised in all ages. This group of patients may also be taking medications or receiving hormone replacement or bioidentical hormones.

The study that was published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal provides some evidence to support the safety of cosmetic surgery in an older patient group. This is not the first study to show these findings and the number of studies supporting this is increasing.

We use supportive bras following breast enlargementreduction and uplifts. These bras are an important part of the postoperative recovery for patients having breast surgery. The bras are usually good supportive sports bras although specially designed post surgical bras can also be bought.

Why do I need a post surgical bra?

A post surgical bra is used immediately following your operation and you will normally have the bra put on in the operating room. The bra provides support of the breast tissue after the operation. This will help reduce the discomfort following surgery by reducing movement and supporting the weight of the breasts.

What type of bra should I get?

We would normally recommend a good supportive sports bra for the postop period. The best bras are front fastening so that putting on or removing the bra is more comfortable and easier to do. It is best to avoid bras that need to be placed over the head as these require excessive movement of the arms resulting in pain and discomfort. The post surgical bras can be purchased from high street stores such as Marks and SpencerJohn Lewis or Asda. Specialist postoperative bras can also be purchased online from Macom, a specialist post surgical garment store.

What is a breast band?

We will frequently use a breast band following your breast augmentation procedure. This is helpful particularly in patients having breast implants placed under the muscle. The purpose of this is to help push the breast implants down as they have a tendency to ride upwards under the muscle. The breast band is usually used for about 2 weeks following your operation.

How long do I need to wear the bra after surgery?

The supportive surgical bra is usually worn for about 6 weeks following your operation. After 6 weeks, you will be able to wear normal underwired bras.

What size surgical bra or postop bra should I get?

This can be difficult to predict exactly and largely depends on the size of implants or reduction. As a general rule, about 130-150cc is roughly about a cup size. You can read our blog on predicting cup size after breast enlargement. Mr Nassab will give some guidance about the bra to get for your surgery.

Prominent ears, commonly known as bat ears, arise when there is failure of the anti helical fold to develop. The anti-helical fold is the natural fold of the ear that is flat in patients with bat ears. The aim of surgery is to recreate this fold and bend the sticking out part of ear backwards.

The surgery to correct sticking out ears is called pinnaplasty or otoplasty. Pinnaplasty involved making a long incision on the back of the ear and then scoring the cartilage or using stitches to fold back the cartilage. Patients would often need to wear a dressing for about a week following prominent ear surgery or otoplasty.

The Earfold device is a novel method of prominent ear correction. This technique uses a gold plated clip that is placed under the skin on the front of the ear. This procedure is performed under a local anaesthetic and takes a fraction of the time to do compared to traditional pinnaplasty. Patients do not need the significant head bandage commonly used after otoplasty. There will be some bruising that usually settles within 1-2 weeks.

Mr. Reza Nassab, consultant plastic surgeon, now offers this procedure in Wilmslow, Cheshire, Birmingham and London. “I have been performing traditional pinnaplasty for several years and this new technique has changed how I treat prominent ears. Existing methods would often be unpredictable with risks of recurrence of the prominence. The Earfold allows patients to see how things would look using the prefold during their initial consultation. Patients frequently take a picture to think over things and then return for the procedure. I am amazed by the rapid recovery following the Earfold and high levels of patient satisfaction” says Mr Nassab.

A study from Mr Nobert Kang, the developer of this technique, was published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. This research showed the benefits of this device in the treatment of patients with prominent ears.

There are many people who have tattoos and then regret them. Laser tattoo removal has long been the first choice for getting rid of them. Laser often involves multiple treatments spread over a length of time. There will also often be some ‘ghost’ or shadow of the tattoo at the end. Advances in lasers using Pico technology have improved the response to laser treatment. Dark inks such as black appear to respond the best whilst lighter colours like yellow or green frequently have a poor response to laser.

There are a growing number of patients seeking surgical removal or excision of their tattoos. This is a procedure usually performed under local anaesthetic that involves cutting out the tattoo and stitching the skin afterwards. This will result in a permanent scar in place of the tattoo. Some larger tattoos may require complex reconstructive techniques such as skin grafts. The cosmetic outcome from the use of skin grafts is often not favourable and so this is often discouraged.

Why would you consider surgical tattoo removal?

There are many patients that have had unsuccessful laser tattoo removal. They have often invested large amounts of time and money with results that have been less than satisfactory. There are also patients with tattoos that cannot afford the time needed to treat them with a laser and seeking a quick removal procedure. Surgical tattoo excision could potentially remove the tattoo in a single procedure. This is why many are now looking to this as a way of removing their tattoo.

Can my tattoo be removed with surgery or excision?

There are number of features of a tattoo that make it suitable for tattoo excision, these include:

Size – smaller tattoos will be more suitable for surgical removal. Large tattoos covering a significant proportion of any part of the body will be very difficult to remove with surgery. This means that a tattoo sleeve or large tattoo covering a large part of the thigh will not be readily removed by excision. Some large tattoos may be removed using a technique of serial excision. This involves removing the tattoo in sections with time intervals. This allows the skin to stretch in between stages.
Location – Tattoos on areas where there is good laxity of the skin will be more suited for tattoo excision. If you can pinch the skin in the area of the tattoo and all of the tattoo is in your pinch then there is a chance you may be suitable for surgical tattoo removal.

How can I find out more about tattoo excision?

To book a consultation with Mr Nassab please use our contact form here or call 07955015150. We will often ask for patients to send a photograph of the tattoo to be removed and details of site, size and prior laser treatments before booking your consultation.

The mummy makeover has become a term used for the combination of breast enlargement or uplift and tummy tuck after having children. It has been widely adopted in the States but less so in the U.K.

Breast changes after having children

The common breast changes after childbirth include loss of volume, drooping and lower nipple position. There are a few options for addressing the changes of the breast from breast enlargement to a breast uplift. Breast enlargement is used to increase the volume or size of the breast by using a breast implant. This may help lift the nipple slightly depending on your breast shape and amount of drooping that you have. When there is significant drooping of the breast and the nipple and areolar have dropped then an uplift is likely to be needed. It may also be possible to perform an augmentation mastopexy which combines the uplift and breast enlargement. The uplift procedure involves more scarring with scars around the nipple, down the middle of the breast and possibly in the fold of the breast underneath.

Abdominal or Tummy changes after having children

Pregnancy results in a number of changes for the tummy or abdomen. Firstly the growing baby inside stretches the tummy muscles and skin. This results in stretch marks which one of the signs of the post pregnancy tummy. Weakening of the abdominal muscles can give a bulge in the middle of the tummy. Once the baby is born the tummy gradually returns to normal but the overstretched skin may not shrink completely. This results in loose skin which may produce a little overhang at the waist. There will also be stretch marks on the tummy and the amount of these will vary greatly from patient to patient. A tummy tuck procedure can help address the issues of weakened tummy muscles and loose skin. In some women there may not be much loose skin to allow a full tummy tuck and they may be more suited to a mini-abdominoplasty or mini tummy tuck.

The Mummy Makeover

The most common Mummy Makeover request is breast augmentation and tummy tuck. This combined operation is performed under a general anaesthetic and will last between 2-3 hours. Patients having breast enlargement and mini tummy tuck may be done as a day case meaning that you will be able to go home the same day. If you need full tummy tuck then you are likely to need an overnight stay in hospital.
