Deep Plane Facelift: Natural, Long-Lasting Facial Rejuvenation

Unlike techniques that simply tighten the skin, a deep plane facelift works beneath the SMAS layer to lift and reposition the deeper facial structures — delivering more natural movement, greater longevity, and comprehensive improvement of the jowls, jawline, and neck. Mr Reza Nassab FRCS (Plast) performs this advanced technique at the Deansgate Hospital, Manchester, CLNQ London and CLNQ Cheshire Knutsford.

Deep Plane Facelift

Face and Neck Lift using the Deep Plane Technique

Treatment Overview

DEEP PLANE FACELIFT

Facelifts are a common procedure to help improve the signs of ageing. There are a number of different techniques for face and neck lifts. At Reza Nassab Plastic Surgery in Cheshire, London and Manchester deep plane facelifts are a technique used to help improve the signs of ageing and address the face, jawline and neck.

There are many different types of facelift from mini to full facelifts but there are also differing techniques. The full facelift technique aim to address not only the skin but also the deeper SMAS layer. The SMAS, which is short for Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System, is the deep layer of tissue that lies beneath the skin. This is the layer that when lifted or tightened improves the signs of the ageing face. SMAS Facelifts

There are a number of ways that the SMAS layer can be tightened or lifted. The first option is to plicate the SMAS layer. This involves stitching the SMAS layer onto itself which results in tightening of the SMAS in the cheek area. The effect of this is to lift the lower face and jowl area. The next option is a SMASectomy which is a technique that removes a piece of the SMAS. The remaining SMAS is then stitched to the tissues to help improve the ageing face.

What is a Deep Plane Facelift?

The deep plane refers to the space underneath the SMAS layer. This is an important that contains many important structures such as the facial nerve. The subSMAS or deep plane can be extended to the neck area. This technique is a more invasive procedure due to the deeper dissection. When the SMAS is lifted off the deeper structures it can be moved to and repositioned to the tissues around the ear. The effect of this is to provide an effective lift of the lower face.

Neck Lift

The neck can be lifted or tightened alone or in combination with a facelift procedure. This involves making an incision under the chin. Some patients need fat removal with liposuction in the neck area. In some patients, there may be some laxity of the muscles which may need stitching to tighten. This stitching of the neck muscles helps give a more defined area under the chin.

Deep Plane Facelift Frequently Asked Questions

How is a deep plane facelift performed?

When can I exercise after my deep plane facelift?

The normal recommendation is 6 weeks for strenuous physical activity. Exercising earlier may cause increases in blood pressure and heart rate that may increase the risk of bleeding.

Will I have bandages or dressings after the deep plane facelift?

Patients having the deep plane facelift in Manchester & Cheshire will usually have a head bandage following the procedure. This bandage will go around the head from under the chin to over the head. This is usually worn for the first week following surgery.

Where are the scars placed for the deep plane facelift?

The scars from the deep plane facelift will be in the same position as those for a facelift procedure. These are usually in the hairline above the ear, down in front then into the ear, around the bottom of the ear then behind, then along the bottom of the hairline at the back of the head.

How much does a deep plane facelift cost?

The cost of the procedure will vary slightly according to where it is performed and if any additional procedures are performed with the facelift. The price starts from £18500 for a deep plane facelift in Manchester and Cheshire.
