An umbilical lift (UmboLift / belly button lift) tightens loose or saggy skin above the belly button through a small, discreet incision placed directly above the navel. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic in our Manchester and Cheshire clinics — no general anaesthetic or hospital stay required — and most patients are back at work the following day. It is particularly suited to patients who have had previous belly button piercings and developed skin laxity following pregnancy or weight change, and to those with a small overhang above the umbilicus who do not require a full mini tummy tuck.

At Reza Nassab Plastic Surgery in Cheshire & Manchester umbilical lifts or UmboLifts are a surgical procedure to help reduce the skin laxity in the upper belly button. This is common issues in patients that have previous had belly button piercings and subsequently had children or weight changes. The skin above the belly button is often saggy and loose and the umbilical lift can help tighten this.
In Manchester & Cheshire umbilical lifts are a procedure that is performed under a local anaesthetic as a day case procedure. You will have a small injection to numb the area and then the skin laxity is removed. There will usually be dissolvable stitches used following the procedure. The results can be seen immediately but the scar can take time to settle. Clinic Procedure — No Hospital Stay
The umbilical lift is performed under local anaesthetic in our Manchester and Cheshire clinics. No general anaesthetic, no overnight hospital admission, and no theatre waiting list.
Immediate Visible Results
The improvement in belly button shape is visible immediately following surgery. The scar takes several months to fully mature and fade, but the contour change is apparent from day one.
Minimal Downtime
Most patients return to desk-based work the day after surgery. The recovery is far shorter than more extensive abdominal procedures, with scar care being the main post-operative focus.

Mr Nassab provides specific silicone scar gel and tape guidance from 2 weeks post-surgery, helping to achieve the flattest, most discreet scar possible.

The umbilical lift (UmboLift) is performed under local anaesthetic in our Manchester or Cheshire clinics. A small numbing injection is given, then excess loose skin above the belly button is removed through a small semi-circular incision closed with dissolvable sutures. Results are visible immediately, though the scar takes several months to mature. Most patients return to work the following day.
The scar is a semi-circular fine line positioned just above the belly button. It may initially appear slightly uneven as there is more skin on the upper portion — this naturally evens out over time. In some cases scars can become slightly stretched or raised. Silicone scar gel or tape from 2 weeks post-operatively significantly helps to reduce redness and minimise any hypertrophic changes.
We recommend waiting 6 weeks before returning to strenuous exercise. This allows the scar sufficient time to gain strength and significantly reduces the risk of stretching or widening during the healing period. Light daily walking is fine from day one.
Yes. Immediately after surgery, tapes and a semi-waterproof dressing covering are applied. These are changed at approximately 7–10 days at your follow-up appointment. After this, further dressings are often not required. You can shower normally once the semi-waterproof dressing is in place.
From approximately 2 weeks after surgery, we recommend applying silicone scar gel or silicone tape to the scar daily. This helps to reduce redness and prevent the scar from becoming raised or hypertrophic. Protecting the scar from sun exposure while it is still maturing is also important to avoid permanent pigmentation changes.
