How is Hyperhidrosis treated?
There are a number of different treatments available for this condition. The first steps include the use of anti-perspirants. These anti-perspirants often contain aluminum chloride. Some patients will see improvement with this simple treatment. In patients who have little improvement from anti-perspirants, the use of botulinum (Botox®) may offer some benefit.
How do Botulinum (Botox®) injections treat Hyperhidrosis?
Botulinum toxin, commonly known as Botox®, block the nerves supplying the ecrrine glands responsible for sweating. It can be used to treat localised areas of excessive sweating such as the armpits, palms or soles of feet.
How long does the Botox® treatment last?
The botulinum toxin treatment for hyperhidrosis is a temporary treatment and generally lasts up to about 4 months.
