Diastasis Recti Repair in ManchesterAbdominal muscle repair with Mr Reza Nassab at Deansgate Hospital

Medically reviewed: Last reviewed by Mr Reza Nassab, FRCS Plast —

Mr Reza Nassab offers surgical diastasis recti repair in Manchester as part of a tummy tuck. Consultations are held at CLNQ, Deansgate Square, and surgery takes place at Deansgate Hospital in Manchester city centre, with follow-up appointments in Manchester. It suits adults whose abdominal muscle separation and loose skin have persisted after pregnancy or weight loss despite physiotherapy.

What diastasis recti repair involves

Diastasis recti is a separation of the two vertical abdominal muscles, which commonly develops during pregnancy and may not close fully afterwards. It can cause a bulge or ‘doming’ of the tummy, a feeling of weakness in the core and a pooch that does not respond to exercise. Surgical repair stitches the muscle sheaths back together to restore a firmer abdominal wall. This is performed as part of an abdominoplasty, which also removes loose skin and stretch marks below the navel. Diastasis repair is not offered as a standalone operation.

Your consultation at CLNQ, Deansgate Square

Your appointment at CLNQ, Deansgate Square is with Mr Nassab personally. He will ask about your pregnancies, weight history, any physiotherapy you have done and your general health. He will then examine the abdomen, feeling the width and length of the muscle gap, checking for a hernia at the belly button and assessing loose skin. If an ultrasound would help clarify the picture, this can be arranged. He will explain whether surgery is appropriate, what a combined tummy tuck and repair would involve, and the likely scars and recovery. The consultation costs £150 and is charged separately. You can also be seen at CLNQ in Knutsford.

Surgery at Deansgate Hospital

The operation is performed under general anaesthetic at Deansgate Hospital in Manchester city centre and typically takes two to three hours. You will meet your anaesthetist and the ward team on the day, and Mr Nassab will mark the planned incisions with you standing. Most patients stay one or two nights. Measures to reduce the risk of blood clots, including stockings, calf compression during surgery and early walking, are used as standard. You will go home in an abdominal binder with clear instructions and a responsible adult to accompany you.

Follow-up and support in Manchester

Routine reviews are arranged in Manchester to check your wound, remove any drains, monitor for seroma and support you through the early weeks. The team can be contacted between appointments with any concerns. A later appointment assesses the result once swelling has settled, and scar care advice continues as the scar matures.

Coming from Greater Manchester and the North West

Patients travel from Salford, Stockport, Trafford, Bury, Rochdale, Wigan and across Lancashire, Cheshire and Merseyside. You will not be able to drive for three to four weeks, so arrange transport for the day of discharge and for early review appointments. Because lifting is restricted for about six weeks, it helps to organise support with young children and household tasks before surgery.

Recovery at a glance

Expect to walk slightly bent forward for the first week or two, to need two to three weeks off desk-based work, and to avoid heavy lifting for around six weeks. Core exercise is reintroduced gradually from about eight weeks. Contact the team the same day with fever or spreading redness, and urgently if the abdomen swells rapidly; one-sided calf pain needs a same-day GP or NHS 111 assessment and chest pain or breathlessness needs a 999 call. The recovery guide and risks guide have more detail.

Cost

Diastasis repair is performed as part of a tummy tuck, and a tummy tuck with diastasis repair costs from £12,500. There is no separately priced standalone repair, and your final quote is confirmed after assessment at consultation. The fee covers the surgeon, anaesthetist, hospital and theatre, garment and routine follow-up. Finance may be available through Chrysalis Finance; Reza Nassab Ltd is a credit broker, not a lender. See the tummy tuck cost guide.
