The double chin is fatty tissue or skin laxity under the chin that can be treated using a number of different techniques. There can often be a familial tendency to have a double chin. The most common reason for a double chin in younger patients is fatty tissue whilst in older patients this may be due to skin laxity. The most common options for the treatment of the double chin include liposuction or neck lift. The double chin liposuction procedure helps remove fatty tissue from the area. This can be combined with some advanced technology options such as FaceTite or NeckTite for radiofrequency skin tightening. Vaser can also be used in the area to help assist the breakdown of the fatty tissue and provide some skin retraction. Patients with significant skin laxity will require other procedures such as a face and neck lift to improve the contour of the area. How is Double Chin Liposuction performed?

In Cheshire & Manchester double chin liposuction is performed under local anaesthetic as an outpatient in our clinic. You will have some injections to help numb the area initially. The liposuction device is used to remove the fatty tissue. This can be combined with the FaceTite or NeckTite device. This radiofrequency device heats the skin and can help tighten it. You will usually have some dressings applied and a compression garment is worn following the procedure.

How long do I need the compression garment?

Immediately following the double chin liposuction in Manchester & Cheshire you will have some tapes applied to the area. You will also have a special compression garment that is worn area the head. The compression garment is to be worn throughout the day and night for the first week following the procedure. The compression garment is then to be worn for the next 6 weeks at night.

What should I expect following the double chin liposuction procedure?

You will usually experience swelling and bruising following the procedure. The swelling can increase more over the first few days. There can be some firmness following the procedure. This swelling and firmness will improve gradually over the coming months. The final results will be seen between 6 to 12 months following the procedure although you will see a noticeable improvement sooner. The skin tightening effects take several months to become evident.

What are the risks of double chin liposuction?

The risks with the liposuction and FaceTite or NeckTite procedure include: bleeding; haematoma; infection; scarring (permanent, hypertrophic, keloid); pigmentation changes; skin burns; indentations; contour irregularities; asymmetry; skin or fat necrosis; sensory changes; nerve injury (temporary or permanent); failure to improve; variable individual response; changes with time or weight; progressive ageing or recurrence with time; local anaesthetic risks.
