Labiaplasty is a procedure to remove excess labial minora tissue. This procedure helps to reduce the overhanging of the flaps that may cause irritation or pulling of the labial minora.

Labial tissue reduction
Labiaplasty can be performed under a local or general anaesthetic procedure. A large number of patients have this under local anaesthetic as an outpatient procedure. There is minimal downtime with this procedure and most return to work within a day or two.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is labiaplasty performed?
Firstly, we will plan the amount of labial tissue for removal. The procedure involves small injections of local anaesthetic into the labia minora which helps numb the area. The excess tissue is removed and cauterised to reduce the risks of bleeding. The labia is then stitched in a number of layers.
What are the types of labiaplasty?
There are two main types of labiaplasty called a wedge or trim labiaplasty. The wedge labiaplasty is usually performed if the excess labial tissue is mainly protruding in the central part of the labia minora. The trim labiaplasty is performed if reduction of labial tissue is required along the length of the labia.
What are the risks of labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is considered to be a safe procedure when performed by a fully trained surgeon that is a BAPRAS or BAAPS member. Complications are rare but can occur, they may include:
Scars
You will have scars where the tissue has been removed. The scars normally heal very well in this area. If there is a trim excision, the scar will run along the length of the labia. If you have a wedge, the scar is usually hidden inside the labia.
Contour Irregularities and Asymmetry
There may be some minor differences between the two sides.
Delayed Healing
There is a small risk of wound breakdown or delayed wound healing. These risks are increased in smokers.
Infection
There is a small risk of infection. This may require antibiotics to help if its occurs.
Bleeding
There is a small risk of bleeding or haematoma. The labia are very vascular which means there are lots of blood vessels in the area. Some medications or health supplements can increase the risks of bleeding.
How much is labiaplasty?
The price for labiaplasty starts from £3750 under local anaesthetic as an outpatient. The price can be more if under general anaesthetic and inpatient.
