The New Year welcomes the latest figures from international associations on cosmetic procedures. There continues to be strong growth in the demand for cosmetic procedures. It has become clear that the demand for non-surgical procedures greatly exceeds surgical operations. The trends in cosmetic procedures is often influenced by celebrities and last year we saw a number of influencers. Some of the most notable celebrity and procedure combinations included: Kylie Jenner and Lip Augmentation; Kim Kardashian and PRP (Vampire Facials); Iggy Azalea and Breast Enlargement.
The New Year brings some new exciting treatments and resurgence of interest in existing procedures. Here are just some of the potential trends for the forthcoming year.
Robotic Hair Transplants
There have been a number of celebrities openly talking about undergoing hair transplant including Robbie Williams, Louis Walsh and Wayne Rooney. Hair transplants have been growing rapidly in popularity and the classic strip technique has been superseded by the FUE or follicular unit extraction technique. This technique involves removing individual unit grafts and inserting these into the desired areas. This method avoids the long scar associated with the strip method. Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
The surgical rhinoplasty to reshape the nose has always been a very popular procedure. The recovery following this was often long and a proportion of patients would need further procedures for refinement. The use of fillers has become increasingly popular and it has been commonly used in the lips and cheeks. A growing number of patients are seeking fillers to reshape the nose. I have seen many patients looking to alter specific concerns with their nose. The most common request is to improve the nose hump. Using fillers to even out the hump is a very effective treatment and the results are instantaneous. The recovery and downtime is minimal thus making this an increasingly more popular treatment. I have also had a number of patients that have previously had surgical rhinoplasties with irregularities. Fillers can be used to improve these irregularities avoiding the need for subsequent surgery. Although the results of fillers in the nose are temporary they are useful in giving an idea of the result one may expect from a surgical procedure. I have also used fillers for advanced nasal reshaping such as lifting the tip of the nose but this should only be performed by experienced plastic surgeons.
Natural Breast Augmentation
Breast enlargement has always been one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. Patients are no longer asking for big volume breast implants and requesting natural looking enhancements. The vast majority of patient I see now are asking for natural looking breast augmentations. This has become popular as there have been many celebrity speculations about whether or not breast enlargement has been performed. A subtle breast augmentation can give a very natural enhancement in keeping with your size and shape.
